Is This Website Built With v0? How to Tell
Vercel's generative UI tool that produces Next.js and shadcn/ui code from a prompt.
Paste the URL into the analyzer and the Overview card shows a “Built with v0” badge when the page matches, alongside the full tech stack, SEO audit and performance scores.
What v0 is
v0 is Vercel's AI builder. It generates React components and full Next.js apps styled with Tailwind and shadcn/ui, and deploys them to Vercel in a click. It started as a UI generator and now produces complete sites, which is why it shows up in audits of landing pages and dashboards.
Signals the analyzer checks for v0
The detector searches the page HTML for any of these strings. One match reports the builder with high confidence.
v0.dev/chatgenerator" content="v0
How to check it yourself
- Open the page, press Ctrl+U (Cmd+Option+U on a Mac) to view the source, then use Ctrl+F to search it. Look for <meta name="generator" content="v0.app"> (older projects say v0.dev). Next.js adds this tag from the project's metadata, so it survives custom domains unless someone removed it.
- Search the source for "v0.dev/chat". Generated pages sometimes keep a link back to the chat that produced them.
- Check for Next.js markers: a __next root element, /_next/static/ asset paths and a __NEXT_DATA__ script or React Server Component payload.
- A default description such as 'Created with v0' in the head confirms untouched v0 metadata.
What v0 sites usually show in an audit
- Because v0 emits Next.js, pages are usually server-rendered. Crawlers see real HTML, which is a better starting point for SEO than most AI builders.
- Metadata is often left at the generated default ('Created with v0'), so the analyzer flags generic titles and descriptions even when the page structure is good.
- shadcn/ui components ship with accessible primitives from Radix, so contrast and landmark checks tend to pass more often than on other builders.
- Vercel hosting provides HTTPS, HTTP/2 and image optimisation, so performance scores are usually acceptable unless large images were pasted in unoptimised.
These are tendencies from audits, not rules. Run the analyzer on the site in question, then use the fix guides for anything it flags, or compare it with a competitor.
