Add Open Graph tags for social sharing
Control the title, description, and preview image shown when your page is shared.
What it means
Open Graph (og:) tags tell WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and iMessage what image and text to show in a link preview. Without them, shares show a bare link or a random image.
Why it matters
Links with good preview images get substantially more clicks. If anyone ever shares your site — you, customers, a viral moment — you want the best possible first impression.
How to fix it
- Add these to the page head: og:title, og:description, og:type, og:url, and og:image (a 1200×630 image).
- Most SEO plugins add these automatically from your title/description — enable the 'social' section and set a default share image.
- Use absolute URLs for og:image and keep the file under ~1MB.
- Verify with the debuggers below after publishing (they also clear the platforms' caches).
Common mistakes
- Using an image smaller than 1200×630, which gets cropped or ignored.
- Using a relative image URL; it must be absolute.
- Not refreshing the platform's cache after changing the tags.
How to check it worked
Paste the URL into the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector and use 'Scrape again' to see exactly what a shared link will look like.
